The copilot as an agent

The copilot integrated into the app is, on the inside, the same MCP server: it reuses its 126 tools. Almost everything an external agent connected over MCP can do, the copilot can do —and vice versa—; the exception is macros, which exist only in the copilot (see below).

For usage (choose provider, set the API key, send messages, authorize destructive actions) it’s documented in Copilot.

What’s worth knowing if you come from the AI side

  • Same curation. Hiding or exposing an operation in the MCP (mcp: { hidden }) changes at once what an external agent sees and what the copilot can do.
  • Same list of destructives. What the copilot asks to confirm is what’s marked destructive in the MCP.
  • And a second reason to ask for your yes: reading your code. The copilot can look at files in the repo of a service you already registered, to understand how it is set up —its angular.json, an application.yml— instead of guessing. It asks you every time, naming the file, and you can refuse. It is worth knowing what that means: that content becomes part of the conversation with your AI provider, and scrubbing does not protect you there —it recognises formats, it cannot guess what is secret in an arbitrary file—. Authorise what is needed and no more; for the most common question, how a front-end starts, there is a query that opens no file at all. Detail in the privacy policy §4.1 ter.
  • Macros belong to it. A macro is a sequence of operations the copilot saves to repeat a flow in a single call. It governs running one —it is what asks for your yes on each destructive step—, so neither running nor managing macros is published over MCP. An external agent repeats the flow by calling its operations in order.
  • Your own provider. The copilot talks to the provider you choose —your Claude subscription, an API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, Mistral, Groq, NVIDIA or OpenRouter) or a local model (Ollama, LM Studio)— with your account; you pay for the consumption. The tool surface is the same whichever it is. It’s the chat capability.
